GEO Takes 21st Century Charter School Graduates to the Drive-In for Graduation

Dear Friends:

The Covid-19 virus has led many high schools across the country to delay or virtualize their graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2020 but at GEO, we took our graduation to the Drive In. Yes, the Drive In. What better way to celebrate a family event than in a family-friendly location and “social-distance” compliant venue like a Drive In?

We packed the place, the families and students really enjoyed being able to be together for one last time before heading off to summer breaks and college, and the weather was great! Wecelebrated 95% of our seniors having already earned a full year of college or career experience while in our high school with more than half having earned a full two years of college or career experience. Several have already earned a full Associate Degree and one student actually earned a full three years of college while in our high school.

And last night, we celebrated the first-year accomplishments of our inaugural class of freshmen attending GEO Next Generation High School in Baton Rouge. While this was virtual (picture below), via Zoom, we had nearly every household on line with us to celebrate students who are already taking geometry, Algebra 2 and real college classes (not normal courses for freshmen). One of our high school freshmen has already earned a full 15 college credits on a real college campus in Baton Rouge.

It’s so exciting to see students taking charge of their futures and parents celebrating (and believing) in their accomplishments.

I hope you are all staying safe. We will get through this.
