Dear Community Member:

On Wednesday, July 29th, 2015, the 21st Century Charter School at Gary lost one of their brightest students, and a family in our community lost their beloved son. This letter is being sent to you to urge you to donate to the memorial of Ryan Brown, who was only 18-years-old when he passed.

Ryan was a fabulous student who was the recipient of not one, but two heart transplants over the course of his lifetime. For most of his junior year, Ryan was confined to a hospital bed at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Despite his major surgeries and countless medical procedures, Ryan was determined to finish his schoolwork and get his education. Ryans family and teachers spent hours by his bedside while Ryan completed homework assignments. On May 15th, 2015 Ryan received his second heart transplant. After he spent time recovering at Northwestern, he was finally released early this summer, and he resumed studies here at 21st Century, working hard and completing all of his junior year courses, despite his lingering health issues.

Sadly, Ryan did not make it to start his senior year, and we wont get the chance to see him walk across the stage at graduation in Spring of 2016. Please help us honor Ryans legacy of hard work and determination.

Due to Ryans extended hospital stays for the past 18 years, his family has no capacity to pay the expenses for his memorial service. The family of Ryan Brown and the 21st Century Charter School at Gary are hoping that you would help us by making a donation. Whether you donate a floral arrangement, food for the family repast, or make a monetary donation, know that we appreciate you.
